There are 115 land trusts in Connecticut, protecting over 62,000 acres of open space. Land trusts are private, non-profit organizations dedicated to land conservation.

The Nature Conservancy operates a Land Trust Service Bureau in Connecticut which provides assistance and guidance to the land trusts.

The Land Trust Alliance is a national organization, established in 1982, which promotes private land conservation.
