Cornwall’s Civil War Soldiers
More than 175 men from Cornwall served during the Civil War. The number of Cornwall men who served during the Civil War has been determined by cross-referencing census records and family histories with military records. Some lived elsewhere at the time of their enlistments, but had close family ties to Cornwall; others enlisted at Cornwall, but have no known connections to the town and were subsequently not included in the count. The following list includes only those soldiers who lived in Cornwall before or at the time of their enlistment. Soldiers who moved to Cornwall after the war ended are not included. Whenever possible, actual date of enlistment is given instead of date of first muster.
Click on the column headings to sort the lists. Click on the soldiers’ names to read their biographies (if available). This list is best viewed in horizontal mode on mobile devices.
Soldiers who served with more than regiment are listed multiple times, once for each regiment.
The Second Connecticut Heavy Artillery began as the 19th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry; soldiers who served with the regiment only during the period in which it was the 19th C.V.I. are listed accordingly; those who served with the regiment during both periods are listed as serving with the 2nd C.H.A.
